After a win against the Matadors from Arizona Western College, Cochise Soccer traveled to Utah to face Salt Lake City Community College for the District Championship. There was a lot at stake as the winner would advance into the NJCAA D1 National Championship held in Evans, Georgia.
The Apaches’ squad had only 13 players available, which proved to be a difference-maker in the match. The Bruins showed their physical play and opened the score in the 15th minute. The second goal was scored right before the end of the first half as Ashlyn Hall made it 2:0 for Bruins.
The Bruins added two more goals in the second half, the first one in the 67th minute and the second goal in the 81st minute. The final score of the match was 4-0. This loss ends Cochise Soccer’s history-breaking season right before reaching the gates of the NJCAA D1 national championship tournament. Brianna Guzman recorded 10 saves.
Cochise Soccer ended the season with a record 5-5 and became Region 1 champions for the first time in the school’s history.
