The Cochise College Nursing and Allied Health staff, in collaboration with Arizona Trauma Association and Canyon Vista Medical Center, invite Cochise County residents to participate in a free training course on stopping traumatic bleeding titled, Stop the Bleed.
The free life-saving training will be held on Saturday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cochise College Downtown Center located at 2600 E. Wilcox Drive in Sierra Vista. Anyone in the community who is 12 years of age and up can attend. To sign up, go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/stop-the-bleed-course-tickets-154735938357. Registration is preferred to ensure enough instructors and supplies. However, walk-ins are welcomed.
Despite how fast emergency responders arrive at a scene, typically, bystanders are available before help arrives. “Those nearest to someone with life-threatening injuries are best positioned to provide first care,” said Melesa Ashline, Director of Nursing. “A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes. Therefore it is important to stop the blood loss quickly.” Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign to motivate bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.
