The Cochise College baseball split its weekend series against four different opponents in the Phoenix area. The Apaches came away with two losses on Friday afternoon, shut out by Gateway 5-0 and falling to Chandler-Gilbert 7-3. But Cochise bounced back Saturday with wins over Glendale, a 9-1 rout, and Paradise Valley, 5-2.

“Weekend characterized by two different teams,” said Cochise head coach Todd Inglehart. “Lifeless and unmotivated on Friday. Energized and full of passion on Saturday.”

Zach Nance led Cochise’s offense against Glendale, going 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Esteban Bastidas was 2 for 5 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.

Frank Salas earned the win, going six innings and allowing a run, two hits, striking out seven and walking two. Braulio Hernandez, Kevin Dorantes and Jacob Potts each threw a scoreless inning.

Kenton Schroter pitched the win against Paradise Valley, going six innings and allowing a run on four hits and a walk while striking out five. Potts earned his third save this season, going three innings and allowing a run on a hit while striking out three.

Corey Fujimoto was 2 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Jason Parks and Nate Hale each went 2 for 4 and had an RBI.

“We were able to find a few more things out about our club this weekend,” Inglehart said. “We really need to become more of a consistent product on the field, and with the conference opener looming this weekend, the sense of urgency only gets even higher.”
