DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team split twice in two days last weekend against Otero College of Colorado.
On Saturday, the Apaches opened with a 6-0 loss before winning the late game 18-0. In Sunday’s doubleheader, Cochise lost 1-0, then won 10-2, bringing the Apaches’ record to 5-3 on the season.
After Saturday’s games, Cochise head coach Todd Inglehart told the Sierra Vista Herald, “In the first game, we didn’t pitch very well and our defense was spotty. Their guy did a real good job of adjusting to what we wanted to do and we did a poor job of adjusting.”
Frank Salas got the win in Sunday’s victory, going six innings with seven strikeouts and allowing four hits. Roy Aguirre came on in relief for two innings, with two hits and a strikeout.
At the plate, Stephan Desgagne went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Jake Luna was 1 for 3 with three RBIs.
In Saturday’s games, Jacob Potts took the loss in the opener. In the second game, Zach Rodgers allowed just one hit over five innings while striking out six. Ciji Ramos pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit.
Tyler Bess had three hits for the Apaches, including a grand slam for four of his six RBIs. Esteban Bastidas had two hits and five RBIs, Rodgers had two hits and an RBI, and Desgagne had two hits.
“Rodgers threw well again. It was his second good outing and it’s nice to see a sophomore throw well,” Inglehart told the Herald. “We did a good job hitting mistakes and we got into their bullpen.”
Next, Cochise travels to El Paso Community College this weekend for doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
