Former Cochise College baseball player Eric Gonzalez is pitching for his home country of Spain in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
Gonzalez played for the Apaches in 2004 and 2005 before moving on to the University of South Alabama, then with the San Diego Padres organization. He went 12-6 with an E.R.A. of 2.70 in two years at Cochise and was part of a sophomore class that won 84 games and appeared in back-to-back Region 1 Championship Series.
“We are very proud and happy for Eric,” Cochise head coach Todd Inglehart said. “Eric was a tremendous talent here and his resume shows it, but his greatest attribute will always be that he is an unbelievable human being to be around. He made his teammates better with just his presence when he was here and still does so in his professional life.”
