DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team ran its winning streak to five games Saturday with a sweep of Gateway Community College.

The Apaches won the noon game 10-7. Tagg Duce led Cochise at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two doubles, five RBIs and two runs scored. Nate Hale, Esteban Bastidas and Austin Nelson each went 2 for 3. Frank Salas started on the mound and went 4 2/3 innings before Kevin Dorantes came on in relief for the last 2 1/3.

Cochise won the late game 11-6 behind seven innings by Jacob Potts, who gave up six hits, five runs, three of them earned, five walks and struck out six. Dorantes and Zach Rodgers each came on for an inning of relief.

Bastidas went 4 for 5 at the plate with a double and five RBIs, and Salas hit a home run for the Apaches, who are now 27-9 overall and 13-5 in Arizona Community College Athletic Conference play, good for second in the conference standings just behind Central Arizona.

Next, Cochise is on the road Tuesday against Chandler-Gilbert for a noon doubleheader. The Apaches are back home Saturday against Mesa on the Douglas Campus, starting at noon. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
