IMG_8427DOUGLAS — The Cochise College women’s basketball team came up short against the nation’s No. 14 Division II team on Wednesday night, falling 59-57 to Pima Community College.

The Apaches led 26-22 at halftime and extended their lead to 37-26 after the break, but Pima came from behind and was up by a point with a minute to play and held Cochise scoreless the rest of the way.

“We don’t really finish games very well; we don’t get stops when we need to,” Cochise head coach Laura Hughes told the Sierra Vista Herald. “We’re young and we’re still trying to grow. The biggest area is defensive rebounding.”

Cochise was led by Destiny Amezquita with 11 points, Aja Hoyle with nine and Tianna Brown with eight. The Apaches are 10-6 overall heading into Saturday’s home game at 5:30 p.m. against Phoenix College. Admission is free to all regular-season home games, played on the Douglas Campus.
