Rosanna Alvarez Anderson, Cochise College 2003 alumna, is from Elfrida and attended Valley Union High School. Growing up in a rural small town, she enjoyed playing sports all through high school. Rosanna was a good student but mainly looked forward to practice and games as she played volleyball, basketball, and softball all four years in high school. During her senior year, she didn’t know what the future held for her. She knew she wanted to go to college but was concerned about the costs. While some classmates were set on going straight to a big university, going out of state, and leaving the small-town life, Rosanna found the best solution for her would be to attend Cochise College.
While at Cochise, she worked in the Athletic Department, which invigorated her love for sports. Rosanna met many coaches, including athletic director Bo Hall. “Cochise gave me a sense of independence while still feeling supported,” Rosanna said. “I didn’t feel just a number in class.”
Because of her passion for sports, Rosanna completed an associate degree in Exercise Science in 2003 with honors. “I will always be thankful for the education I received at Cochise College,” Rosanna said of her Cochise College educational experience. “It offered me a quality education that was affordable and allowed me to venture outside of my small town bubble slowly. I’m still a small-town girl with big dreams, and I have never forgotten where I came from.”
