CHANDLER – The Cochise College women’s soccer team, still down players to injuries, fell short against Chandler-Gilbert on Tuesday, 2-1.

“The girls came out strong and ready to play,” said Cochise head coach Andrea Daniels. “Unfortunately, Chandler took advantage of their two scoring opportunities early in the match and we went into halftime down 2-0.”

The Apaches regrouped at the break and came out for a strong second half. Franciele Bonfanti faked a cross and connected with Juliana Alves Da Silva in the 6-yard box and she buried it in the net.

“The girls came together during halftime and came out looking like the team we always knew they were,” Daniels said. “They were unstoppable. We were connecting passes, dominating play and were able to put a goal in the back of the net.”

Daniels said it was one of the best games she’s seen so far this season.

“We battled for the entire half,” she said. “We ended up short, but I was so proud of the girls. I have never seen them fight like they did. I couldn’t be more proud of their hard work and effort.”

Cochise is 2-5-1 overall and 1-5 against conference teams as the Apaches go deeper into region play. Next up is an away game at Gateway at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
