Douglas, AZ — The Cochise College women’s basketball team kicked off the new year of 2016 with a win,
routing South Mountain Community College 79-33 on Wednesday night.
Freshman forward Sophia Elenga led the way with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks, while guard Endia Peterson had 9 points on 4/4 field goals. Sophomore guard Taylor Harris showed up big for Cochise, tallying a season-high 9 points and collecting a team-high 3 blocks. Freshmen JuWanna Milton and Jordyn Penniman each had 8 points, with sophomore forward Coulter Bowlen tying Milton with 6 boards.
Cochise used good ball-movement on offense to find open players which led to it shooting 46% from the field. Defensively, the team was active and
played with toughness to net 16 steals, and forced South Mountain to commit 29 turnovers and shoot just 31%.
Cochise, who out-rebounded South Mountain 40-24, is 4-1 over its last five games and now has a 12-4 overall record and 6-2 conference-mark. Next up is a home contest against Phoenix College on Saturday evening at 5:30 pm. All home games are free admission.
