Pima vs. Cochise

The men’s basketball team lost to Pima Community College 88-87 in what was a back and forth lead all throughout the game.

The Aztecs got out to a hot start, jumping on the Apaches early and going up by 15 points in the first half. With 1:33 to go in the first half, Pima lead 47-35, but Cochise went on a 6-0 to cut the lead to six at halftime, 47-41.

The second half saw the Apaches get a 12-point lead with 6:24 left. Pima went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to four and eventually tied the game at 83 points each. From there Pima took the lead (84-83) at the free throw line.

The Apaches won backup free throws from Jawan Stepney making it 85-84. With 12 seconds left in the game and the Apaches down by one, Chaz Mack got a wide open layup, assisted by Arell Hennings, to put the Apaches back up by one.

The next possession saw Pima score and put the Aztecs back in the lead with four seconds remaining.

Arell Hennings had a chance to win it for the Apaches but saw his three point shot go in and out as time expired.

The Apaches were led by Jawan Stepney who finished with 20 points, going 7-11 from the field. Arell Hennings had 16 points and 6 assists. Emanual Shepherd had another double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

“Pima came out with great energy after dropping some games and really wanted to win. We have to get back to work on Friday and prepare for Scottsdale,” said Head Coach Jerry Carrillo.
