Women's Basketball team 2015Tucson, AZ — Just before the New Year kicked in, the Cochise College women’s basketball team traveled to Tucson for the Pima Tournament. The first game on Tuesday saw Cochise take on Snow College who came from Utah and handed Cochise a 68-57 defeat.

Arianna Anderson led Cochise in scoring with 13 points, while Sophia Elenga and Jordyn Penniman each had 12.

Coulter Bowlen grabbed 8 rebounds, yet Cochise lost the battle on the glass 35-24. It was an off shooting night for Cochise, as it only hit on 39% of its field goals, while Snow College shot 55% from the field.

To get over the loss, Cochise charged the gym on Wednesday afternoon and blew out South Mountain 74-41.

Arianna Anderson continued her scoring ways by notching 18 points and collecting 8 rebounds.

Coulter Bowlen had 13 points and 7 rebounds and Rauline Martinez had 12 points.

Sophia Elenga was also a main contributor, adding 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Cochise won the rebounding battle 43-37 and shot 46% from the field while holding South Mountain to just 28% shooting.

Thursday was New Year’s Eve and Cochise decided to close out 2015 with a win, beating Parkland College of Illinois 66-59. Sophia Elenga was aggressive all afternoon and notched a double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Coulter Bowlen also added 16 points and 8 rebounds for Cochise, who 45% from the field and out rebounded Parkland 37-36.

Cochise is now 11-4 overall, with a 5-2 conference record going into the New Year. After a few days off, the team takes the court again Wednesday, January 6th to host South Mountain at home.
