DOUGLAS – For the second straight game, the Cochise College women’s soccer team found itself edged 1-0.
The disappointing loss to the Gateway Geckos on Monday came on the heels of a loss at Mesa by the same scored last Thursday. The loss to Gateway was the Apaches’ third in a row, putting the team’s record at 5-11-1 and dashing Cochise’s postseason hopes.
“We are out of the playoff running,” said Apache head coach Andrea Daniels.
Gateway scored on Cochise in the 26th minute. Despite offensive pressure, the Apaches couldn’t respond and capitalize on the other end of the field.
Within the loss, Daniels noticed a bright spot in the play of freshman defender Makenna Lehrmen, of Sandy, Utah.
“She played with so much heart and dedication,” Daniels said. “She really lead the team with her effort and I could not have asked for anything more from her.”
The Apaches will honor their sophomore players on Thursday with the final scheduled home game of the season against South Mountain beginning at 3:30 p.m. Admission to Cochise home games is free.
