DOUGLAS — The Cochise men’s and women’s basketball teams kept pace in their respective conference races Wednesday night by dismantling Scottsdale Community College on the Douglas Campus.

The Cochise women ran all over the Artichokes, 66-39. Ashley Mitchell scored 15 to lead Cochise, while CC Rode scored 11 and Jasmine Lemon had nine.

At 10-2 in conference games and 18-3 overall, the Apaches are two games back of Central Arizona for first place, but are holding down the No. 2 spot by a game and a half over Mesa, Eastern and Western.

The Cochise men remained one game back of Central and Arizona Western with a 98-62 blowout of the Artichokes.

Demeco Blue and Jerry Duckworth each had a team-high 19 points with Blue adding 11 rebounds. Tim Jacobs scored 14, and Joe Bell Austin and Jordan Russell had 11 apiece.

This Saturday night, the Cochise teams take on South Mountain Community College on the Douglas Campus. The women’s game tips off at 5:30 and the men’s game follows at 7:30.

Admission is free to all Cochise regular-season home games.
