DOUGLAS — The Cochise College women’s soccer team won its second straight game Wednesday with a 1-0 victory over Chandler-Gilbert.
Makenna Lehrman scored the game-winner in the 44th minute, just seconds before halftime. Lisa Christensen sent a long ball to the top of the field, where Talya De Leon ran with it and booted a shot from the 18. Chandler-Gilbert’s goalie bobbled the ball, and Lehrman put it in the back of the net.
“This game was really important for us regarding the overall standings,” said Cochise head coach Andrea Daniels. “Before the win, we were in seventh. The win put us into sixth, and the top six make it to playoffs.”
Last Saturday, the Apaches had another shutout victory against South Mountain, 3-0. In that game, De Leon scored in the ninth minute, and Lehrman put away the other two in the 27th and 50th minutes.
Daniels said she was glad to see that pressure continue into Tuesday’s game.
“The girls came out hard, working together and creating opportunities,” she said. “They battled to the last second and came up big with the win.”
The Apaches are at home again on Thursday against Glendale. Game time is 3 p.m. Admission is free.
