Douglas, AZ —The Cochise College men’s basketball team steam rolled Chandler-Gilbert (103-54) on Tuesday, November 24. This was the sixth time in eight games that the Apaches broke the 100 point mark.
The Apaches started out hot by jumping on the Coyotes early on. At halftime, the Apaches led the game (55-35) with an excellent defensive effort, forcing 12 turnovers by the Coyotes.
In the second half, the Apaches continued their brilliant defensive performance only allowing CGCC to shoot 34% from the field.
Head coach Jerry Carrillo said, “This was our best defensive performance of the year. We have the length and talent to be one of the best defensive teams in the country. If we continue to play defense like this, great things will happen.”
Cochise had contributions from numerous players. Five Apaches scored doubled digit points. Chaz Mack led with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Emanual Shepherd finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Arell Henning, Dallas Polk-Hilliard, and Jaben Garett finished with 12, 13, and 11 points respectively.
Cochise is 2-1 in league play and 7-1 overall. The Apaches are averaging 109.8 points per game this year, which ranks them number 3 in the nation.
The next game is against Eastern Arizona College and will feature two of the best teams in the ACCAC.
“The practices leading up to the game with the Gila Monsters are huge. The guys have developed good practice habits during the season. We will look to continue that this week,” said Guy Meyer, Assistant Coach.
The game will take place in Thatcher, AZ on Wednesday. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
