The Cochise College Apaches remain in 1st place with a 79-61 victory out Mesa. The Apaches jump on Mesa from the opening tip. Cochise was able to get the pace of the game where they wanted it.
“We were able to play the way we wanted to. Holding them to a low shooting percentage in the 1st (35%). Because of that we were able to get out and transition and play up-tempo,” said Head Coach Jerry Carrillo.
The second-half was more of the same good flow from the Apaches. Cochise was led by Arell Hennings and Jawan Stepney who finished the contest with 17 and 15 respectively.
It was an all-around effort as many different players made big plays on both ends of the floor. Chaz Mack and Jaben Garrett took big charges on the defense end to stop any momentum the T-bird had. Dallas Polk-Hillard and Emanual Shepherd grabbed big time rebounds to limit Mesa to one shot attempt. Cochise is getting ready to travel to Sell, AZ and play Tohono O’odham this Saturday. Game will be tipping off at 7:30PM.
