Line up your educational finances for next year by applying for scholarships offered by the Cochise College Foundation before March 4.
Scholarships, which are awarded for the 2013-14 school year, are available for both full-time and part-time students. Generally, students need to be enrolled in six or more credits to qualify.
“There are scholarships with very broad criteria, and there are others targeting students enrolled in specific academic programs, such as aviation, nursing, art, STEM programs, and others,” said Denise Hoyos, Executive Director of the Foundation. “In addition, some scholarships target students who have graduated from a specific Cochise County high school.”
This year, the Foundation has more than 100 scholarships available, totaling about $300,000. All students have to do is complete the application process to verify eligibility, file a FAFSA by April 1 and register for the fall semester by the beginning of May.
“The intuitive online questionnaire involves no more than 25 quick-click questions and also requests short essays about applicants’ academic and career goals, financial circumstances and extracurricular activities,” Hoyos said. “Applicants are encouraged to provide thoughtful answers to the essay questions.”
Scholarships do not need to be repaid but are considered part of a student’s financial aid package. Most scholarships have been provided by individuals, organizations and companies with ties to Cochise County.
