Dr. Lella Gandini, a noted advocate of the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education, will present a lecture that is open to the public at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 in Room 900 at the Sierra Vista Campus of Cochise College.
Gandini serves as a liaison in the U.S. for the dissemination of the Reggio Emilia Approach to early childhood education. This educational philosophy seeks to foster intellectual development through a focus on symbolic representation and encourages children to explore their environment and express themselves through words, movement, drawing, painting, playing, and other natural modes of expression.
Gandini researches, lectures, consults, and writes in English and Italian on many issues of early childhood development. She has co-authored The Hundred Languages of Children: The Reggio Emilia Approach; In the Spirit of the Studio; and Insights and Inspirations from Reggio Emilia.
Gandini will present a brief history of the Reggio Emilia approach and focus her presentation on looking at children’s work, to include drawings, photos, and quotes as a way of understanding how these mediums represent thought.
This presentation is sponsored by the Cochise College Art Department, Head Start, and Tucson Children’s Project. Contact Al Kogel at kogela@cochise.edu or (520) 515-5479 for additional information.
