Cochise baseball, regional runner-up last season, opens another promising year with their annual trip to Henderson, NV for the Coyote Border Battle at the College of Southern Nevada. Last year, the Apaches upset the home team and won the tournament! They open with Salt Lake Friday. Pitcher Taylor Stone moves up from No. 2 behind Anthony Haase who is now playing for the TX Rangers organization. He joins Gabe Rowe, Justin Rodriguez, Artie Carrera, Mike Bauzin and Juan Espiricueta as the only returning sophomores. Catcher Max LeFevre, a switch-hitter from France, will hit at the top of the lineup and has terrific potential at shortstop. Gabe Rowe will start at 2nd base, Justin Rodriguez at 3rd and Corey Fujimoto will back up Stone at 1st, when Stone is pitching. Joining Stone and Espiricueta at the mound will be Braulio Hernandez, from Albuquerque, Matt Hall from Henderson, NV, and Bubba Blau, a transfer from Salt Lake City plus Canadians Rory Young and David LeBlanc. First chance to see the Apaches play at home comes Saturday and Sunday, February 12 and 13 v. U of A club team.
