hunt_alma2Cochise College Building Construction Technology Instructor Alma Hunt was recently selected to serve on the board of the Southeastern Arizona Contractor’s Association (SACA).

SACA’s mission is to improve the quality of representation for the construction industry in southeastern Arizona, with a focus to promote the local construction industry, safe work practices through education and training, quality workmanship and ethical conduct in business, and member prosperity and cooperation.

The mission meshes well with Hunt’s professional role, and his appointment will allow him to bring together several aspects of skilled training/education and community service. Last summer, he was elected to represent post-secondary education on the board of Arizona SkillsUSA, and he also serves on the Habitat for Humanity Construction Committee and the Cochise Tech Prep board of directors. He has taught building construction technology at Cochise College since 2006. Previously, he worked as a foreman, framer and cabinet-maker and taught cabinetry, woodworking, metal working and welding at Willcox High School. In recent months, Hunt’s students have built a playhouse for a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser and lent their skills to other community service activities.

Supporting local charities is another part of SACA’s mission. The organization provides scholarships to students enrolling in the Cochise College building construction technology program. The scholarships target career-focused students enrolling in any construction-related course at the college.

Formed in 1977, SACA represents a diverse group of construction-related businesses in Cochise County, including general contractors, sub-contractors and specialty contractors, suppliers and equipment companies, and professionals and associates. SACA’s mission is to improve the quality of representation for the construction industry in southeast Arizona.
