LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The Cochise College baseball team dropped three of its four-game set against Western Nevada College last weekend.
Western Nevada won Friday’s game 7-4 in 10 innings after going up 4-2 in the fourth, but allowing Cochise to tie it in the fifth with a two-run double to left by Adam De La Cruz. The Wildcats — the away team for this game — scored three runs in the top of the 10th on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.
In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Cochise jumped on top early with two runs in the top of the first with an RBI single by Dan Hetzel and a fielder’s choice that scored De La Cruz. Western Nevada answered with a run in the second and three more in the sixth to win 4-2.
In game two, Cochise again scored in the top of the first, thanks to a two-run single by Nick Borowski, but would go on to fall 6-5 in 10 innings. Jackson Overlund and Sean DeSoto were each 2 for 5 at the plate.
The Apaches won Sunday’s game 7-3 behind Borowski’s eight-inning effort on the mound. He allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out three. At the plate for Cochise, Louis Boyd was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored and Darick Hall was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Cochise’s record is 5-3 heading into Friday’s games against Thompson Rivers at the Douglas Campus. The Apaches start conference play at home Saturday with a noon doubleheader against Eastern Arizona College. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
