DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team rolled over Phoenix in Tuesday’s doubleheader, winning game one 9-0 and game two 8-1.
In the early game, the Apaches exploded for six runs in the first inning on their way to the shutout. Cochise added a run in each of the second, third and fourth innings. Darick Hall had two RBIs on three hits, with singles in the first, second and third innings. Jovan Ewusie went 1 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.
Xavier Altamirano recorded the win for Cochise, going six innings while striking out six, walking two and allowing just three hits.
In the second game, Phoenix scored its run in the third inning to take an early lead, but Cochise was on the board with three in the fifth, another in the sixth, three in the seventh and one more in the eighth.
At the plate, Jayson Hicks went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, Hall went 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Francisco Silva had two RBIs and scored two runs.
Hall started on the mound for Cochise and went seven innings, allowing a run on five hits and no walks while striking out four.
The wins improve Cochise’s record to 11-8 overall and 7-5 in conference play heading into two weeks of away games, beginning this Saturday with a noon doubleheader at South Mountain Community College, followed by the Phoenix Area Juco Spring Classic on March 12-15.
