THATCHER — The Cochise College baseball team split its weekend doubleheader with Eastern Arizona, winning the first game 6-4 and falling in the second game 6-5.
In game one, the teams were tied 4-4 heading into the seventh and final inning, where Dan Hetzel hit a solo home run and Sean DeSoto scored on Louis Boyd’s single to left to put the Apaches up for good. Darick Hall was 3 for 5 at the plate with four RBIs for Cochise.
The Apaches couldn’t pull off a late rally in their game two loss. Cochise was up 5-3 after scoring two in the second on a passed ball and sacrifice fly, and three more in the fourth on a solo home run by Jackson Overlund, an RBI double by Boyd, and a sacrifice fly by Bryan Nunez. The Gila Monsters scored three in the bottom of the seventh. Cochise’s chances ended in the top of the ninth with the tying run on third.
Cochise is 37-11 overall and 22-6 in conference play heading into Tuesday’s noon doubleheader against Arizona Western on the Douglas Campus. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
