Cochise sweeps Community Christian College in a back-to-back doubleheader. In the first game of the doubleheader on Monday, the Apaches turned to Freshman RHP Nate Rohlicek to start the seven-inning game. Rohlicek earned the victory on the mound for the Apaches. Rohlicek allowed one hit and three runs over four innings, striking out seven. Marco Ozuna and Matt Maloney entered the game out of the bullpen and helped close out the game. Cochise got things started in the first inning after Ethan Silcox drove in one run with a triple down the right-field line. The Apaches tallied four runs in the second inning led by Hernan Yanez and Eduarny Martinez, sending runners across the plate with RBI in the inning. Cochise collected twelve hits in game one led by Ethan Silcox, Cameron Crotte, and Martinez as they each collected multiple hits for the Apaches. Crotte and Silcox each had three hits in the game, and Martinez was a perfect two for two on the day with an inside-the-park home run. Cochise outlasted Community Christian in the seven-inning game, winning 12-6.  

In the second doubleheader game, Freshman LHP Joseph Sinclair took the mound for Cochise. Sinclair surrendered zero runs on four hits over five innings of work, striking out ten hitters. Apaches defeated Community Christian College 15-0. Cochise shut out the Saints in a combined effort on the mound by Sinclair and returning RHP Adrian Aguilera. Aguilera came into the game in relief in the sixth inning and finished the game throwing two innings while allowing two hits. Apaches got things moving in the first inning when Jimmy De Leon doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. The Apaches tallied four runs in the sixth inning with Wilfredo Matos’ walk, a triple by Matt Maloney, and a single by Gerardo Hernandez. Cochise tallied twelve hits in the second game of the doubleheader. Yanez, Hernandez, and Connor Caskenette each had multiple hits for the Apaches. The Apaches offense pressured the Saints by putting up twelve runs. The Cochise defense was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Cochise closed out the opening day doubleheader with a sweep over the Saints. 

On Tuesday’s game one of the doubleheaders, Cochise, turned the ball to returning freshman RHP Treyjen Meza. Meza surrendered zero runs on zero hits over three innings, striking out seven and walking zero while earning the win. Mason Piert and Matt Maloney entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Cochise secured the victory thanks to eleven runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught came from walks by Makai Desoto and Gerardo Hernandez, singles by Aaron Marsh and Hernan Yanez, a triple and a home run by Martinez, an error on the defense, and a double by De Leon. Cochise went on to win the ball game 20-1 with a standout performance at the plate by Martinez, racking up five RBI’s on three hits. The Apaches had fourteen hits on the day. Martinez, Cameron Crotte, Aaron Marsh, and De Leon all collected multiple hits for Cochise, while Crotte and Martinez led the way with three hits apiece. 

Jose Velazquez toed the rubber for the Apaches in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader. Velazquez surrendered three runs on four hits over three innings, striking out six and walking one while earning the win for Cochise. After trailing in the first inning, the Apaches regained the lead right away on a double by Jimmy De Leon, a grand slam by Cameron Pehrson, a single by Wilfredo Matos, and a double by Ethan Silcox. Cochise scored seven runs in the first inning and also added another seven in the second inning. The Apaches offensive firepower was led by Ryan Webster, Fernando Brazoban, Wilfredo Matos, Ethan Silcox, Connor Caskenette, and Makai Desoto, as they all drove in runs in the frame. The Apaches had fifteen hits in the game, with Pehrson, Matos, Caskenette, De Leon, and Desoto all grabbing multiple hits. De Leon, Caskenette, Matos, and Pehrson led the way for Cochise in the hit column as they all had three hits apiece in the game. Cochise’s offensive display led them to a 20-5 win over Community Christian College completing the sweep in a four-game series home opener. 

The Cochise College baseball team will play at home in Douglas on Friday, Feb. 19, and Saturday, Feb. 20 against Utah State Eastern. The four game non-conference series starts at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on both days.
