DSC_2272DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team swept Pima Community College in a doubleheader Saturday on the Douglas Campus, winning the first game 15-1 and rallying to win the late game 7-6 in 10 innings.

In game one, Pima scored its lone run in the first inning before Cochise exploded for three in the second, seven in the third and five in the fourth on the way to a run-rule win. Kade Wagner earned the win for Cochise, going all five innings and allowing six hits and a walk while striking out one.

At the plate, Darick Hall was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored, Jackson Overlund was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and three runs scored, Dan Hetzel was 2 for 2 with a double and a home run, and Bryan Nunez was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Game two was tied 6-6 heading into the bottom of the 10th, when one of Nate Stepna’s three doubles in the game scored Sean DeSoto for the win. Hall was 2 for 3 with a double and a home run, Overlund was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Four Cochise pitchers took the mound in game two. Adam De La Cruz earned the win, allowing no runs while giving up a hit and striking out two in the final two innings.

The wins improve the Apaches’ record to 31-9 overall and 16-4 in conference games. Next, Cochise travels to Scottsdale for a noon doubleheader on Tuesday, followed by a home doubleheader against Chandler-Gilbert on Saturday. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
