DOUGLAS — The Cochise baseball team’s Wing Series wrapped up Monday with the Red squad defeating the Black squad in a thriller, 5-4, to clinch the series 3-1.
“The Red squad gets to enjoy ice cold refreshments and over 400 wings to themselves,” said assistant coach Jesus Arzaga. “While the Black squad watches, with celery and ranch.”
Late in the game, Red squad’s Brad Danzeisen (Nevada) came in for two innings and shut down the Black squad. Meanwhile, Red squeezed two runs off miscues, tying the game at 4-4. Sean DeSoto came up with a two-out base hit to win the game in the bottom of the ninth.
The Wing Series, an annual fall tradition, divides players into two scrimmage teams drafted by captains chosen by head coach Todd Inglehart. This year, Louis Boyd (Canada) led the Red squad and Nick Borowski (Nevada) led the Black squad.
