DOUGLAS — The Cochise College baseball team was swept by Arizona Western College in a doubleheader Tuesday, falling in the first game 2-0 and the second 3-2 in 10 innings.
In the early game, Steve Naemark pitched seven solid innings in the complete game, giving up just one earned run on eight hits and three walks while striking out five. Gerardo Arzaga recorded Cochise’s lone hit, a bunt for an infield single in the bottom of the fifth.
The late afternoon game saw the Apaches take a 1-0 lead in the second on two singles and an error. Arizona Western evened the score in the fifth and took a one-run lead in the top of the eighth. Cochise responded in the bottom of the eighth to tie it 2-2 on a single by Darick Hall that scored Louis Boyd.
With two out and a runner on first in the 10th, a triple gave Arizona Western the lead and Cochise was shut down with a double play and groundout to end it.
The losses drop Cochise’s overall record to 28-22 with three conference doubleheaders left in the regular season. Next, the Apaches travel to Pima on Saturday.
