PHOENIX — The Cochise College baseball team defeated Langley Blaze of British Columbia in all three games played this week.
The Apaches shut out the Blaze in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday 8-0. The game was decided early as Cochise scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning, with the help of a grand slam by Jovan Ewusie, and tacked on two more in the fifth. Nick Borowski got the win, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing four hits and a walk while striking out four.
In game two Wednesday, Cochise pulled out the 10-5 win behind a five-run fourth inning. Louis Boyd led Cochise’s offensive threat, getting on base four times, scoring three runs and hitting an RBI. Kade Wagner earned the win for the Apaches, going three innings and striking out five, walking none and allowing three hits.
The teams played again on Friday in Phoenix, and Cochise again got the win, 9-1. The Apaches scored seven runs in the first four innings with the help of a two-run triple by Jason Sanez in the first and an RBI double by Francisco Silva in the second. Austin Nelson had two RBIs on two hits with a single in the third and double in the eighth. Borowski again got the win on the mound, allowing just three hits, no walks and striking out five in four innings.
The wins improve Cochise to 18-14 overall this season as the Apaches head back into conference play.
