IMG_7188DOUGLAS — The Cochise College men’s basketball defeated South Mountain Community College 75-74 on Wednesday.

“I’m pleased with the effort,” Cochise head coach Jerry Carrillo told the Sierra Vista Herald. “The guys really dug in and believed in each other. They really competed on the defensive end and scored at the rim. We played to our strengths.”

Cochise trailed 42-34 at halftime, but tied it 49-49 with 13 minutes to play and took a 57-53 at the 10-minute mark.

Demitrius Balark and Tim Jacobs each led Cochise with 16 points and Bryan Laws added 11 for the Apaches, who take a 2-3 overall record to Mesa Community College on Saturday.

“They’re going to be a good team and good at home,” Carrillo said. “We’ve got to get more efficient offensively and our defensive rebounding has to get better.”

The Apaches face Eastern Arizona on Wednesday then return home to the Douglas Camps on Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. against Tohono O’odham. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
