IMG_8983PHOENIX — The Cochise College men’s basketball team capped its run in the Maricopa County Holiday Basketball Classic at Phoenix College with an 87-85 overtime win over Howard College on Monday.

The victory over the team from Texas, ranked 11th in the nation, came after Cochise defeated University of the Fraser Valley of British Columbia 63-58 on Saturday and Mohawk College of Ontario 94-80 on Sunday.

Jordan Martin scored 31 points, including seven 3-pointers and two game-winning free throws, against Howard, and he had 30 points with four 3-pointers against Mohawk. In Monday’s game, Tim Jacobs added 15 points, Ron Singleton had 14, Demitrius Balark had 13 and Bryan Laws had 10.

“That was a really good win for us; they were a quality team,” Cochise head coach Jerry Carrillo told the Sierra Vista Herald. “There’s still a lot of work we’ve got to do.”

Cochise is on a five-game winning streak and has a 9-6 overall record heading back to conference play this Saturday at Central Arizona. The Apaches return home against Pima at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
