Sophomores Max Lefevre, Bubba Blau, Corey Fujimoto and head coach Todd Inglehart
Last year’s Apaches were the National Junior College Athletic Association Academic Team of the year for 2011 after finishing with the highest team grade point average among all baseball teams with a 3.46 GPA.
The minimum grade point average requirement for consideration is a team GPA of 3.00. The Cochise College women’s basketball team was also recognized for outstanding academic success with a team GPA of 3.12.
This marks the 28th year the NJCAA has recognized the success of its student-athletes in the classroom. With minimal changes, the NJCAA academic awards program has been in place since 1983.
In 2010, the Apache baseball squad finished with a 3.06 team GPA. The 2009 team finished third in the nation with a 3.39 GPA, topping the 2008 Apaches who finished with a 3.32 team GPA, which was sixth in the nation.
Grade checks are issued every other week to all of the instructors of baseball student-athletes so that coaches can maintain constant monitoring of all classes.
