The Cochise College soccer team traveled to Phoenix to face the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes for another conference contest. The Apaches were eager to win the game and end the week on a high note.
The first half did not offer any goals. Cochise presented themselves with an organized defensive play that created a couple of scoring opportunities. The majority of the half was a battle in the middle part of the field. The first half score was 0-0
The second half started with high pressure from the Apaches. This resulted in a goal in the 55th minute. Maria Azarias (Santa Catarina, Brazil) made a smart move to find Ivana Siles (La Paz, Bolivia), who found the back of the net with an accurate 20-yard shot, 1-0 for the Apaches. A few minutes later, Damariz Miranda (Douglas, AZ) fired a shot from 25 yards out to hit the crossbar. It looked like the ball bounced from the crossbar behind the goal line; however, the referees decided no goal. The Coyotes could not break through the Apaches’ defense, so the game ended with a score of 1-0.
The win improves the Apaches’ record to 7-4-1 and 3-2-1 in the ACCAC conference.
