The Apaches hosted the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes for a non-conference contest.
Cochise Soccer opened scoring early when Maria Azarias (Santa Catarina, Brazil) found Ivana Siles (La Paz, Bolivia) inside the 18-yard box just 20 seconds into the match. The Apaches held a 1-0 advantage until the 28th minute when the Coyotes drew a corner kick. The ball found the Coyotes attacker wide open for a header that tied the game 1-1.
The second half offered more back-and-forth action. Both teams had chances, but the game looked as if it would result in a tie. With three seconds left Maria Azarias received a ball from Amberlee Alvarez (El Paso, TX), made a move to break free from the Coyote defenders, and found the back of the net from 25 yards out to score the game-winner.
The win puts the Apaches’ record to 4-0.
Cochise soccer will travel to Phoenix to face Mesa Community College, on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.
