DOUGLAS — The Cochise College women’s basketball team took nationally-ranked Mesa Community College into double overtime Wednesday night but couldn’t come up with the win in a 78-73 loss to the Thunderbirds.
Aja Hoyle led the Apaches with 19 points, followed by Destiny Amezquita and Te Oramae Solomon with 16 apiece. Tianna Brown had 15 rebounds and Solomon added 11 rebounds.
Mesa is ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA Division II poll. The Apaches are now 8-5 in conference games and 13-7 overall this season.
Cochise looks to bounce back this weekend against Eastern Arizona College. The game on Saturday begins at 5:30 p.m. on the Douglas Campus. The Apaches then travel to Tohono O’odham on Jan. 29 and return home on Feb. 1 against Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
