Cochise College and Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Cananea (ITSC) have signed a new articulation agreement to establish academic collaborations and create a framework for future institutional partnerships. This agreement builds on the two institutions’ successful collaboration for over 20 years.
Areas of interest for both institutions include academic, cultural, social, and sport exchange projects that would benefit students on both sides of the border. The partnership has been successful through several initiatives, including training ITSC teachers in their English language learning and through athletic competitions of student-athlete teams.
“The City of Cananea is the sister city for the City of Sierra Vista, and the communities of southern Arizona and Cananea share a long mining history,” said Abe Villarreal, Douglas Campus dean.
“We look forward to strengthening our partnership and creating educational opportunities that benefit students through programs and activities experienced in Mexico and the U.S., led by leaders, faculty, and students from each institution,” added Dr. James Perey, executive vice president.
Cochise College officials Dr. Perey; Dr. Jennifer Wantz, executive dean of community engagement; Arturo Chacon, college success navigator; and Dean Villarreal visited the Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Cananea to sign the agreement with the university. “The agreement will provide students unique opportunities to learn, grow, and experience different cultures while studying at both institutions,” said Villarreal.
