Cochise College, one of the first community colleges in Arizona, is excited to announce its inaugural Founders Day celebration, set to take place on Thursday, Sept. 21, at its Sierra Vista and Douglas campuses. The public is invited to help us celebrate the college’s journey since 1964.
Join us from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Library at the Sierra Vista Campus at 901 North Colombo Ave in Sierra Vista. Then, at 2 p.m., attendees are invited to continue the festivities at the Douglas Campus, 4190 West Highway 80 in Douglas, in the Administration 100 Building. The event will begin with a short presentation about updates at the Douglas Campus and feature
- Tours of the new Welcome Center.
- A unique chance to meet alumni
- Explore a traveling exhibit titled “Capturing Commencement: Searching the Past for the Future.”
Founders Day captures a glimpse into Cochise College’s rich history, commemorating its first classes held on Sept. 21, 1964, which drew an unexpectedly high number of students. It’s a time to reflect on our past and look forward to creating a future. It’s also an opportunity for our community to connect and create memories.
The special event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served at both locations.
For the ongoing archiving projects, the college is asking alums and community members to donate any Cochise College commencement programs they may have from the following years: 1965/1966, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1989, 1991, 1992, and 1993. Anyone willing to contribute can bring their items to the Founders Day celebrations or contact Ashlee Gray, Cochise College librarian and archivist, at (520) 417-4142 or graya@cochise.edu.
