The Cochise College Literary Guild, a club for readers and lovers of books, will hold discussions on five books this semester, with each meeting facilitated by a different club member. Book discussions take place from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. one Tuesday per month in the Sierra Vista Campus Library, Horace Steele Conference Room. The dates and books to be reviewed are:
- “A Friend of the Family,” a story of love, control, friendship, courage and the sacrifices fathers make to protect their children, by Laura Grodstein. Facilitated by Tonya Pike on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
- “Saving the World,” by Julia Alvarez, is the story of two women living two centuries apart, each facing a crisis of the soul when their fates are tied to idealistic men whose commitments to medical humanitarian missions end in disillusionment. Facilitated by Cecilia Lewis on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
- “West with the Night,” by Beryl Markum, the first person to fly solo, east to west, across the Atlantic. Facilitated by Joanna Soper on Tuesday, March 22.
- “In the Dismal Swamp,” by Patrick Balester, is the story of a U.S. Fish and Wildlife field agent whose jurisdiction is the site of a mysterious death. Facilitated by Jackie Pekar on Tuesday, April 19.
- “A Scandal in Bohemia,” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is a story from the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Facilitated by Steve Kim on Tuesday, May 10.
