Sharla - CulinaryName: Sharla Fagan

Current Position: Associate Faculty

The world of culinary arts is where flavors and creativity blend for a rewarding career. Sharla Fagan is the newest addition to Cochise College’s faculty in the Culinary Arts program.

Fagan’s culinary story began at Cochise College as a student graduating with an associate of applied science degree in culinary arts and stacking certificates for the sous chef apprentice, garde manger, and chef patisserie, solidifying her practical skills. Then, this past year, she continued her education at Cochise, earning an associate degree in business management. While a student at the college, Fagan worked as a culinary aide. The hands-on experience and working with other instructors solidified her desire and enthusiasm for culinary arts.

She credits the Culinary Arts program with expanding her palate and refining her culinary techniques. “I became more confident in cooking and learned about different products and equipment that I wouldn’t have bought or used on my own or had access to.”

She said, “I enjoy working in the culinary industry because it gives me a creative outlet that benefits others. You can’t generally find many people who don’t appreciate a good meal or dessert.”

As an instructor, Fagan said, “Teaching students a skill to improve their everyday lives is inspiring and motivating. The ability to transform the mundane act of preparing a meal into an enjoyable experience is a driving force behind my work.”

Fagan notes, “I get to talk about cooking all day! Whether it is talking about food or a technique or some type of equipment, I am here for it.”

Cochise College offers certificates in culinary arts, baking & pastry, culinary fundamentals and culinary skills.
