Cochise College is making significant changes to its deadlines to register for classes and policies for receiving refunds for dropped courses this fall semester.

Students must be signed up for a class the day prior to the course start date. That is, if a class begins on a Monday, students need to register by Sunday; if a course begins on a Tuesday, students must be signed up by Monday. Late registration is no longer available

To receive a full refund for a dropped course, it must be dropped prior to the start of the term. Students who drop a class within the first week of the term will be refunded 90 percent of their tuition, which can be applied to a new course added to their schedule — as long as the new class hasn’t met yet. No refund is available after the 90-percent refund window closes.

For the regular 16-week semester, courses will be refunded in full if dropped before Aug. 18, or at 90 percent if dropped between Aug. 18-25, or no refund after Aug. 25. For 8-week, 10-week and 21-week terms, visit www.cochise.edu/tuition for the complete refund schedule.

“Research shows that people who get into classes when they first start have more success than the people we let in late,” said Dr. Bo Hall, Dean of Student Services. “In the past, we could be 10 days into a semester and you could walk into a class you’ve never been in. We want students to get into their classes on time so they have a chance to be successful.”

By July 15, students who have registered for classes must have paid for those classes in full or signed up to use the payment plan at www.MyCollegePaymentPlan.com/Cochise; otherwise, their registration will be deleted. If students register for classes after July 15, full payment is due at the time of registration.

“There are two key things to understand: Sign up for class before it starts, and if you want all your money back, drop it before it starts,” Hall said.

These deadlines and policies apply to all course terms that begin this fall. The fall 16-week semester begins Aug. 18. For more information about the new refund schedule, visit www.cochise.edu/tuition.

Students who plan to apply for financial aid to help pay tuition should also consider freeze date deadlines when planning their fall schedules. A student receiving financial aid must be registered in all classes for the semester by the listed freeze date, which is Aug. 27 for Fall 2014. Find more important deadlines on the Academic Calendar or contact the Financial Aid Department for more information.
