The 2002 GED test is expiring at the end of this year and will be replaced by a much more challenging exam.
Cochise College Adult Education will be offering Fast Track GED classes on the Sierra Vista and Douglas campuses for those who have begun but not passed the GED test, including students who have finished the five-test battery without a passing score and those who have taken some but not all of the tests. Space for each session is limited.
Classes on the Sierra Vista Campus begin Aug. 5 and run for four weeks, with sessions offered from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday or 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Register on Aug. 5 at the start of the session of your choice in building P1, located at the annex complex on the east side of campus.
Four-week classes on the Douglas Campus begin in September, with afternoon sessions from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday starting Sept. 3 or evening sessions from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays starting Sept. 4. Register at the start of the session of your choice in building 400. This group will plan on taking the GED test on Oct. 17 or Nov. 14 and 15.
“These intensive classes have become necessary due to the expiration of the current GED test and the beginning of the 2014 GED test on Jan. 1, 2014,” said Susie Morss, Adult Education Director at Cochise College. “After Jan. 1, scores from the 2002 GED will no longer be valid. Students who have not passed by Dec. 18, 2013, will have to start over. Candidates are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the Adult Education classes and to finish their GEDs promptly.”
