The Cochise College Skills USA Club will host the 21st High School Welding Competition on Friday, April 5 at 8:30 a.m. in the Welding Lab on the Sierra Vista Campus. The event is a collaboration between Skills USA, Phoenix Welding, and the Cochise College Welding Department.
“The goal of this competition is to ignite a long term journey to become a welder,” said Scott Brown, the college’s technology department chair. “At the competition students can show their skills using welding tools and processes.”
The competition includes shield metal arc welding, oxy-fuel cutting, gas metal arc welding, oxy-fuel welding, and a written exam. Participants will receive great prizes. Some of the prizes that past winners received were a gas metal arc welder, a grinder, and a torch outfit prize to name a few. Safety is enforced, and students must wear proper welding attire at all times.
