Copper Queen Community Hospital (CQCH) is partnering with Cochise College’s Nursing Program to provide new equipment for training simulations at our enlarged Downtown Center in Sierra Vista. This partnership is part of CQCH’s Community Health Improvement Initiative. CQCH and Cochise College’s Nursing Program already have a flourishing working relationship with CQCH participating in Cochise College’s Nursing Preceptor Program, which provides mentors and real life training for students.
The Copper Queen Hospital is donating a total of $20,000 in new equipment, which is a necessity for the college’s new nursing facility.
Jennifer Lakosil, Dean of the Allied Health, said, “We needed 10 hospital beds for the new nursing lab, one simulation bed because we are going from a two-bed to a six-bed unit (like an intensive care unit), and four IV pumps. The pumps match the ones currently used at the Copper Queen Hospital. When our students are over there doing clinical rotations and preceptorships there, they are learning to use them. But with the donation, they will be able to train on them in our labs so that when they go to do their clinicals they are already familiar with them. I personally asked for them because we don’t have them and they are not cheap. The hospital has been very generous.”
J.D. Rottweiler, president of Cochise College, commented on the community’s partnership and future growth: “Cochise College is excited to unify its healthcare training programs at the Downtown Center and appreciates the valuable support of local providers like Copper Queen Community Hospital. This contribution of funds and equipment will help the college better prepare professionals to work in these facilities and enhance the quality of life of our region. Cochise College cannot succeed without great partners like Copper Queen Community Hospital and its network of providers.”
Cochise College is excited to see what benefits unfold as a result of Copper Queen’s contributions. The Cochise College Downtown Center is expected to open fall 2016.
