The Cochise College Center for Lifelong Learning will continue its Lunch Lecture series this fall in a new, convenient location for Douglas community members. The public is invited to attend free noontime lectures on Tuesdays during the fall semester on the first floor of the Douglas Government Center, located at 1012 N. G Avenue.

The lunch lecture series, presented each semester in Douglas, Sierra Vista and Benson, offers attendees an opportunity to hear fascinating stories and learn about a wide array of topics in a no-pressure environment. Each lecture features a new topic and presenter. All lectures are free and open to the public. Just bring your lunch and stop by. This semester’s series includes discussions of travel, history, art, the border.

Weekly lectures are scheduled from 12:10 to 1 p.m. each day. Benson lectures are on Mondays at the Cochise College Benson Center, Douglas lectures are on Tuesdays and Sierra Vista Campus lectures are on Wednesdays in room 702.

Yikes! There’s a skunk in my backyard. How do I get rid of it without creating a stink? A rattlesnake may cause you to pause as you view it from a distance, but in your yard, it’s something to discard. Graeme will communicate strategies to help you deal with unwanted wildlife.

Cochise College Ceramics in China 2012, with Tate Rich, Art Instructor
Step into the world of ceramic art. Cochise College Ceramic students spent two weeks as artists in residence in Jingdezhen, an area of China that has been the site of important ceramic art developments for more than 17 centuries. Tate Rich will reveal this China experience in lecture and with pictures.

Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Garayua, Border Community Liaison, will discuss the Department of Homeland Security Border Patrol 2012–16 Strategic Plan, the Border Patrol Mission, Partnerships and Technology.

Flight of the Vin Fiz, with Kathy Klump, Author
Cal Rodgers piloted his aeroplane, the Vin Fiz, on the first transcontinental flight landing in Willcox on October 31, 1911. Klump, author and president of the Sulphur Springs Valley Historical Society narrates a comical, historical account of this 49-day flight.

Mata Ortiz, with Ron Bridgemon, Associate Curator, Amerind Foundation
Mata Ortiz pottery is experiencing a revival largely due to talents of potter Juan Quezada and anthropologist Spencer MacCallum.  Discover the history behind this ceramic art that dates back to the prehistoric vessels of the Casas Grandes culture.
