The Cochise College men’s basketball team was recognized for the best GPA among all men’s basketball programs in the NJCAA, announced Tuesday.
The Apaches earned a 3.37 GPA to earn Academic Team of the Year for men’s basketball. Sophomore guard Tim Jacobs was recognized individually for Superior Academic Achievement with a 3.95 GPA. Jacobs is planning to transfer to the University of New Mexico next season.
Academic team honors are awarded by the NJCAA to those with a team GPA of 3.0 or better. The Cochise College baseball team was also recognized for earning a 3.14 GPA.
The 2013-14 academic year marks the 31st straight season the NJCAA has recognized the success of student-athletes in the classroom. With minimal changes, the NJCAA academic awards program has been in place since 1983.
