Cochise College will host its 46th commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, May 13 at the Douglas Campus. Students completing their first and second years of the nursing program will participate in a candlelight ceremony at the campus the evening before. Both events will be broadcast live on the college website, www.cochise.edu.
This year, the college will award nearly 820 associate degrees and expects about 300 students to participate in the event. The ceremony will take place on the lawn next to the Charles Di Peso Library. Online streaming will allow viewers to see everything from the processional to the last graduate crossing the stage.
The college selected two students to address the class of 2011. Staci Smith, Huachuca City, and Ellen Whitehead, McNeal, each were named to the All-Arizona First Team, an honor recognizing the top community college students in the state. They also were named Coca-Cola scholars and have been active in student activities and leadership positions on campus.
A special candlelight ceremony recognizing this year’s nursing class will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at the Douglas Campus. Nearly 125 students are eligible to earn certification as practical or registered nurses. That ceremony also will be broadcast on the Internet.
