Cochise College sophomore pitcher Zach Rodgers earned Third Team All-American Division I honors, announced Wednesday morning by the NJCAA.
Rodgers went a perfect 11-0 on the mound this season, 10 of those wins coming during the regular season and the last against Spartanburg Methodist in the Junior College World Series tournament last week. He finished the season with a 1.29 ERA.
“I’m happy for him,” said Cochise head coach Todd Inglehart. “Not bad for a guy who didn’t pitch for about a month, but in terms of numbers, well deserved.”
Rodgers missed most of the month of May due to a back injury. Inglehart said the pitcher is still deciding where next year will take him.
“He’s got a few offers, he’s weighing them, figuring out what he’s going to do,” Inglehart said. “He was one of the best pitchers in the league for 80 percent of the season, and I’m glad he got rewarded for it.”
Previous Cochise baseball All-Americans include pitcher Anthony Haase, a second team honoree in 2009; outfielder Will Campbell, second team in 2007; infielder Luc Berube and outfielder Greg Roth, both third team in 1986; outfielder Beau Allred, honorable mention in 1985; and Dennis Clow in 1981.
