DOUGLAS — The Cochise College women’s soccer team opened the season Saturday with a 3-1 win over Glendale Community College.
Cochise scored twice in the first half, the first by Brittany Melvin, assisted by Carley Acosta, and the second an unassisted goal by Ivonne Cisneros. Brooke Madden scored an insurance goal for Cochise in the second half off a corner kick.
“The girls came out strong the first 10 minutes and really capitalized on every opportunity,” Cochise Head Coach Andrea Daniels said. “I am very happy about where the girls are at this early in the season.”
The Apaches played their home opener at Douglas High School, where the majority of the team’s home games will be this season while the Douglas Campus field recuperates from large amounts of rainfall during the summer’s monsoon.
“We are fortunate to have Douglas High School provide their facilities to us. And we are looking forward to playing Chandler-Gilbert there on Monday.”
Monday’s game begins at 7 p.m. at Douglas High School, located at 1500 E. 15th St. Admission is free to all regular-season home games.
