Cochise College sophomore Nathan Sobey committed Tuesday to the University of Wyoming men’s basketball team.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard averaged 16.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game last season on an Apache team that went 25-6 overall. Sobey helped lead Cochise to an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference championship before the team fell in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region I tournament.
The Australian native was named first team All-Conference and first team Division I All-Region. As a freshman, Sobey averaged 7.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists with Cochise. He’s also played for the Warrnambool Seahawks, an Australian semipro team.
According to the Laramie Boomerang, Sobey will be second Australian native to play for the Cowboys. The first was Steve Leven, a guard from Airds, Australia.
The spring signing period runs from April 11 through May 16, and, according to the Associated Press, Sobey said he would sign with Wyoming on the first day.
