Cochise College Governing Board member Jane Strain was recognized last week for successful completion of the Community College Governance Recognition Program by the Association of Community College Trustees.
The program was launched last year in an effort to acknowledge the time, effort and dedication it takes for community college trustees to effectively govern their institutions.

Program participants choose from face-to-face and online educational courses through ACCT to complete 12 credits in government leadership training.
Self-paced classes focus on both governing board needs and individual learning goals.
Strain earned credits for completing online webinars in advocacy, fundraising, institutional accreditation, financial oversight, board meeting procedures, and the board chair’s role; the National Legislative Summit Advocacy Academy held in Washington, D.C., in February; and the Governance Leadership Institute held in Salt Lake City in March.
“The CCGRP is a hallmark of individual trustee learning at the national level,” wrote Narcisa Polonio, Executive Vice President for Education, Research and Board Leadership Services, in Strain’s recognition letter. “We commend (Strain) for making the commitment to excellence in community college governance.”
